Arnhemland is an area of 97,000 km², in the northwest of Australia's Northern Territory. The area was named by Matthew Flinders, who named it after the Dutch ship De Arnhem, which explored the coast in 1623. The ship was in turn named after the Dutch city of Arnhem. The area has been a reserve for the Aborigines since 1931. The Yolgnu, one of Australia's largest indigenous tribes, live in this reserve.
