PREPARATIONS

Flight

Qatar Airways

Once again plans have changed. Instead of Singapore Airlines, I chose Qatar Airways because it fits better with my other plans. I fly to Bali via Doha and from there to Darwin. The return journey goes via Brisbane and again Doha to Amsterdam.

Update

The flights keep changing. First the one from Qatar Airways, then the one from Quantas and now the one from JetStar, which I use for the last part of the outward journey from Bali to Darwin. I arrive there around 4 o'clock in the afternoon on Sunday the 18th and would leave there again at 1 o'clock at night. The last flight now only departs around half past twelve, so just before noon on Monday the 19th. I have now also booked a hotel at Bali airport.

4WD

RedSands

I have rented from Apollo in the past and it has always been a good experience. Last time I chose the Apollo Trailfinder. The disadvantage of this 4WD is that it has become heavy due to all the modifications and installations and the fact that it was equipped with relatively narrow tires did not make driving through very loose sand any easier. Another option is a 4WD camper from RedSands. These 4WD campers are somewhat comparable to Apollo's Overlander, except that a Rooftop tent is also used here. These 4WDs are supplied with 2 spare wheels as standard, which makes them attractive, especially for the Gibb River Road and all other 4WD tracks. In any case, they look nice, but are slightly more expensive than those from Apollo.

Accommodation(s)

mirambeena

The start of my journey, apart from the flight(s), starts in Darwin. I know from experience that it is nice to acclimatize for one or two days before leaving for the first part of the trip.
It Mirambeena Resort from Travel Lodge has always been a good choice in the past. It is within walking distance of the center of Darwin, is quiet and accessible by shuttle from the airport.

 Paradise on the Beach

At the end of the trip, take a rest on the beach at the Great Barrier Reef.
A travel agent recommended this resort to me as the ideal place to end your trip in Australia. Here you can relax and prepare for the return journey that will inevitably come again. Paradise on the Beach is a resort in Palm Cove, a coastal town about 25 kilometers north of Cairns.
It has a swimming pool and is located right on the beach and within walking distance of the jetty where a lot of fishing takes place during the day.
